Shelton State Community College Partners with Eastwood Middle School for Empowerment Day

Empowerment Day 2024

May 1, 2024 – On Friday, April 26, Shelton State Community College partnered with Eastwood Middle School to host Empowerment Day. Held on the College’s Martin Campus, Empowerment Day was a collaborative initiative designed to inspire potential and guide students toward career opportunities.

Based on the theme, “The Choice is Yours,” Empowerment Day offered students unique glimpses into career paths by exploring different industries and learning about the importance of making information decisions. Through interactive sessions and insightful discussions led by industry professionals and educators, students were encouraged to examine their interests, discover their passions, and set meaningful personal and professional goals.

“We believe in the power of planning,” said Shelton State’s Eric Prewitt. “It isn’t enough for students to know there are opportunities; we must help them discover how opportunities align with their interests so that they choose a career path that is fulfilling. Events like Empowerment Day help guide students at an early age to “aha moments” and a direction for the future.”

Prewitt’s sentiments were echoed by Evelyn Peoples, Eastwood Middle School’s Principal. “Empowerment Day represents a pivotal moment for our students as they embark on their journeys toward adulthood,” said Peoples. “By partnering with Shelton State Community College, we are equipping students with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to make informed decisions about their future careers.”
